As I write this, I’m on my way to New York for Thanksgiving. I’m currently sitting in the airport in Dublin, waiting for our connecting flight, munching cheese and sipping a glass of cold white wine. Our suitcases are checked through, I have carefully packed all our presents for our lovely hosts – red squirrel toy, rocket gun, cheese gadget, Thanksgiving squirrel placemats, yummy Swiss chocolate … – and made multiple shopping lists for our time Stateside. In fact, I am sooooooo excited I’ve been driving poor RR nuts for the past few days by bouncing off the walls and generally being rather Tiggerish… But we’re on our way now, and life is good!
Ms A and Mr T have foolishly kindly volunteered to kitty-sit while we’re away. We did a handover on Sunday night and they’ll be moving in later today for 2 weeks. We think this is a great idea – they get a 2 week holiday in Switzerland, along with the the use of my little car, while we can sleep easily, knowing that Mr. Boy and Mimi Bubba are in safe hand and (hopefully) not trashing the place put of boredom. We’re hoping that the little monsters (M&M, not Ms A and Mr T!) are well-behaved while we’re away, as they aren’t exactly known for exemplary behaviour, but – hey – it’s not our problem for the next fortnight, is it?!
RR and I have decided we must be getting middle-aged and sad, for several days now we’ve been amusing ourselves by thinking of all the things we’ll be able to do without little furry presences for the next couple of weeks – leave our glasses on the bed side table overnight and wake up and they’re still there and still intact! Read books that haven’t been chewed! Not get woken up at 5am by Mr Boy insistently sniffling my face and purring loudly to announce his need for breakfast! Not wake up to a pile of toys on the bed, brought in in dribs and drabs over the course of the night by hopeful kitties who want to play!
In short, it’s going to be a real holiday 🙂
Now, I may not be sewing for the next few weeks, but I’m certainly hoping to visit some lovely quilt stores – primarily my local one from back in the day when we lived out on LI. Maybe the City Quilter – though I do find them a bit snooty in there, to tell the truth. But, joy of joys, RR has booked us into a hotel in the Garment District for the end of our stay – I feel some browsing may be in order, at the very least!
But that’s all still to come. In the meantime I’m going to kick back, relax and have another glass of wine while I wait for my flight – I am on holiday, after all 🙂
